Dr Catherine Nixon
UKCP Registered Psychotherapist & Psychotherapeutic Counsellor
As a psychotherapist and counsellor I aim to help you gain a better understanding of yourself and others and to help you identify and work towards things that you want to change. I offer a safe and confidential space for you to explore the issues you are struggling with. My approach is integrative which means I draw on various therapeutic models and techniques relevant to my clients' needs. I work with my clients collaboratively and sensitively on issues that have been triggered by recent events or issues that are long-standing.
For the last six years I have worked with clients in primary care, bereavement support services and private practice, providing long-term and short-term therapy to adults. Prior to my current therapeutic work I spent several years completing my PhD research on sexualities and sexual identity and have been involved in academic research within health and social sciences for over fifteen years.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship is central to the work that we do in psychotherapy and counselling and I offer an initial session so that - in addition to understanding my clients' needs more fully - my clients have an opportunity to meet me and decide if I am the right therapist for them.
I trained and qualified as a psychotherapist and psychotherapeutic counsellor at The Northern Guild For Psychotherapy & Counselling in Newcastle, UK. I'm a registered member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), and the UKCP Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy College (HIPC).
As a practitioner within the field of psychotherapy and counselling, and to assure my clients of professional practice, I adhere to six key elements listed below:
-
Work within the UKCP code of ethics and good practice
